I love the start of a new school year. The stores are full of school supplies, the crayons are pointy and unbroken, the pencils are sharp, and the paper is crisp and clean. Last year, when I wasn't teaching, I really missed being a teacher at the start of a new school year. I also missed not having my own group of students. For most of my career, even when I was teaching general education, I have always felt that the kids with special needs were "my kids". These are the kids who will have to work harder, but they can achieve their dreams, just like anyone else.
